Case Study: IP Phone, WiFi, CCTV systems at Irish Commercials Volvo

Posted by:SenSys onJanuary 29, 2018

Irish Commercials are Ireland’s approved distributor for Volvo trucks and buses. With 3 locations throughout Ireland, they expect and demand the same great levels of service and technical support that Irish Commercials provide to their Volvo clients.

Irish Commercials have recently expanded and opened their Santry, Dublin depot and called upon SenSys Technology to provide them with a Business IP Telephone System, Wi-Fi and Managed Wireless LAN, State of the Art IP CCTV System with Intelligent detection and an Integrated Intruder Alarm System in Dublin all converged on one managed and scalable network.

SenSys Technology had previously worked and supported the IP CCTV and video analytics and some wireless network technologies at Irish Commercials Naas offices. So, when we met with Irish Commercials IT Director, he had very specific requirements and demands for their IT data network and security systems and as we had proved our services and support on previous projects, he knew the SenSys Technology Team where the right company to deliver his Network, Communications and Security System requirements with the on-going support and maintenance with SenSys CARE.

The Phone system requirements:

Irish commercials required;

  • A VOIP (Voice Over IP) phone system to the advantage of the most competitive call plans
  • Softphones and mobile App’s for staff to take their extension anywhere and allow staff to work from any office, home or even allow the directors to make and receive a call in any country with the same levels of accessibility as sitting at their desk
  • Full failover and redundancy in the event of a power or broadband failure at the Dublin depot
  • Full integration with the existing phone system and extensions in their Naas and Galway offices
  • Web Meetings and Web conferencing facilities on the desktop and mobile devices
  • Mobile APP’s and mobile devices to work on the SenSys installed WiFi network to allow roaming throughout the building and yard areas
  • Call recording, reporting and IVR’s
  • On-going support and service with a 4-hour SLA

How SenSys Technology met the Phone system requirements:

SenSys Technology proposed and installed a 3CX Phone system, 3CX is a windows based phone PBX software that we installed and configured on an existing IT server at Irish Commercials. SenSys Technology advised on RAID and redundancy on the IT server selecting RAID 1 on the operating system hard drive and redundant power supplies to eliminate the chance of downtime in the event of a hardware failure. SenSys proposed our SIP trunk and VOIP partners Blueface to supply SIP trunks and call plans for over 15 simultaneous call connections. SenSys configured the system with a Dublin 01 phone number and configured failover to call the Naas or Galway office in the event of Broadband failure or power failure at the Dublin office. All office employees had the 3CX softphone installed on their desktops and mobile phones to allow them to bring their extension anywhere and organise or participate in web meetings and conference calls where they can share and view presentations, documents or video.

SenSys Technology managed the complete network set up, phone system configuration, provisioning of mobile apps and softphones and set up and recommended the best call plans.

With SenSys CARE, we provide planned preventative maintenance on an on-going basis and providing software and firmware updates as they become available, changes to call hunting or set up as requested and we have achieved the SLA for any call out’s and response that have been required.

The WiFi and Wireless LAN requirements:

  • Complete internal and external coverage of the WiFi access throughout the office, social areas, workshop and yard areas
  • Have 3 different SSID and access providing: ‘Office Access, Guest access, and Workshop access’
  • Operate the WiFi phones over a reliable wireless network with HD voice quality
  • Secured network access
  • The IT manager required complete visibility of the wireless network and what network activity was happening on it
  • Reliability and uptime was key to business continuity

How SenSys Technology met the WiFi system requirements:

SenSys Technology installed cloud-managed WiFi 802.11ac access points supporting 2.4GHz & 5GHz. The high-performance dual-band access points are water and dust resistant ideal for the challenging workshop and external locations.

The access points installed are controlled by a cloud managed wireless controller with 99.9% uptime. The cloud controller was appealing to the client as it meant that there were no expensive on-site controllers for Irish Commercials to support and manage an upgrade plan for.

The WiFi SSID’s were programmed with an Irish Commercials Volvo branded splash page with password protection for the staff network and restricted browsing parameters for the guest/public network. With the built-in firewall prevents users on the public network from seeing each other or the wired staff network by default.

Through the user-friendly web management dashboard, we provided the IT manager with great user insight with bandwidth management, and device fingerprinting so the client can see who is on the network from the device, operating system, name, bandwidth used and more.

The networked CCTV and Intruder alarm requirements:

Irish commercials required:

  • Integrated and networked IP CCTV and Intruder Alarm
  • HD (High Definition) CCTV quality day & night
  • Complete video coverage of all internal & external areas for health and safety as well as security
  • Reliable detection of intruders in external areas and send activation alarms to a remote monitoring station
  • Setting detection of CCTV and Intruder alarm through the same mobile application and keypad
  • Redundant recording and failovers on the recording server

How SenSys Technology met the IP CCTV and Intruder alarm requirements:

SenSys Technology installed an Intelligent Avigilon CCTV system with advanced video analytics for smart detection of intruders in all external areas day or night. As an advanced certified installed and partner of Avigilon we have integrated the intelligent CCTV detection system with the intruder alarm so when the alarm is ‘armed’ so are all external areas.

We can also set up individual areas or ‘blocks’ for example all external areas are ‘armed’ but not the building should it be required. Using intelligent AI (Artificial intelligence) the system decides if the object detected is a human or vehicle, if the object is classified as a human or vehicle then the alarm/alert is sent to the monitoring station for review. In the event, it is reviewed and a burglar or intruder is detected then the pre-amplified audio speakers on-site allow the monitoring station to make an audio announcement to warn off intruders. Meanwhile, the monitoring station can call keyholders and Gardai.

All CCTV footage is recorded on a redundant and failsafe Dell recording server in 3MP High Definition quality.
