NSAI (National Standards Authority of Ireland) is Ireland’s official standards body.
NSAI National Metrology Laboratory maintains national measurement standards for a range of physical quantities. These standards represent the best available representations in Ireland of the internationally agreed units of measurement.
The NSAI currently had 110 data points as well as analogue telephone wiring cabled and terminated from 1 downstairs comms cabinet to offices and labs around the building. The Comm’s cabinet management needed a tidy up, labelling, testing and some structuring.
Due to a requirement of more networked devices and faulty network cabling we replaced 110 data points and added an additional 140 data points throughout the building across 2 floors bringing the total number of data points to 250.
As the site was live 7 days a week it was a requirement to have no downtime on the network and have a smooth transition. There was a requirement to add an additional full height comms cabinet upstairs and route all upstairs labs and offices to the upstairs cabinet and anything downstairs to the downstairs cabinet for better IT management.
In addition to the 250 data points, there was a requirement to add fibre optic cabling and backbone between the 3 comms rooms. This now provides superfast network speed and provides a future proof IT network backbone. The comms cabinet needed to be changed and brought up to standard and labelling.
The SenSys Technology structured cabling experts got to work. We replaced the 110 data points and added 140 more data points. We stripped the downstairs (main) comms cabinet and added a suspended floor under the new cabinet to professionally structure the comms room and allow for professional cable management.
We installed 2no new full height comms cabinets and re-cabled the data points and terminated in to new patch panels and 250no faceplates in the labs and offices. All data cables were tested and certified to industry standards using a FLUKE DTX. DTX.
We cabled, spliced and terminated a multimode fibre optic backbone between the 3 comms cabinets. Again, this was tested and certified using a FLUKE OTDR
The SenSys structured cabling team, undertook cabling and termination of some data points in the clean room laboratories. This was an additional challenge as no dust, dirt could be generated when drilling or cabling. This was a challenge that wasn’t a problem for our professional team and the lab management were very pleased with the results.
The NSAI, now have a future proof IT network. The comm’s cabinets are professionally structured, neat and labelled. Each of the 3 rooms are connected by a fibre optic back bone. The labs and offices have 250 points that will future proof the NSAI Metrology Laboratories for years to come.
